St Nicholas’,

‘....all are welcomed and encouraged....’

St Nicholas Church was built in 1884 on the  existing site, only the tower remaining from the  previous church. It is a beautiful building and  both it and the surrounding grave yard are in good order and very well maintained. We have a very hardworking PCC and our  congregation, though small, ranges in age from 8-80 plus and all are welcomed and encouraged to  take an active part in our services. At the present time we have Holy Communion  services on the second and third Sunday of the  month at 8:30 am, the fifth Sunday is a united  benefice service. Our “special” services are Mothering Sunday,  Harvest Thanksgiving, and a candle lit Carol  Service, all of which are very well attended by the  village. We have also had flower and craft displays in the church. Following our harvest service we have a charity  auction of produce in the Plough Inn opposite the  church, the results of which have benefitted the  McMillan nurses, the Yorkshire Air Ambulance,  but mostly Dove House Hospice in Hull. This year we hope to top the £10,000 mark raised over the  last eight years.
